"As you proceed eastward around the rim from the parking lot at Hopi Point there is an overhang which provides shade, quiet and protection from the wind. The roof is blackened from old campfires; there is a perfectly convenient sitting rock and above it are smears of paint from the careless artists who were there before. I'm convinced that many artists such as Gunnar Widforss, William R. Leigh, Sheldon Cheney and many more worked here." (excerpt and sketches from 1977 sketchbook)
